I hope you enjoy this blog about advertising, submitted as my final piece of assessment for MKT20021: Integrated Marketing Communications for Swinburne University in Melbourne.
My name is Sharon Doyle, and this is also my final piece of assessment for my Bachelor of Arts (Internet Communications) for Curtin University in Perth, completed through Open Universities Australia.
I live in Brisbane and have had a long career on the other side of the media fence as a newspaper subeditor, currently for The Courier-Mail. For more than 25 years I have helped inject humour and life into metropolitan newspapers, both broadsheet and tabloid, in Australia and the United Kingdom.
Headline writing is a valuable skill in editorial and advertising and it’s one that has given me great pleasure to have honed over the years. I love telling the essential story in as few words as possible, with a twist or a trick to catch the reader’s attention and keep them on the page.
Media platforms and culture are evolving rapidly and I’m proud to have surfed the crest of the changes. I look forward to where all this is headed.
